We often use the term “Professional Services” within a surveying context, but what does that mean? As a professional services surveyor, an outline of my year so far provides a fairly good overview.

Despite the wider economic headwinds and challenges, market activity has continued and there are always lease renewals, rent reviews and valuations to be undertaken. I predominantly deal with the main commercial property sectors of industrial, offices, retail and land, advising investors, lenders, owner occupiers and tenants, including pension funds, companies, charities and individuals.

Highlights so far this year include:

Agreeing terms for a lease renewal of a 72,000 ft² manufacturing facility in Sinfin, Derby on behalf of the tenant.
Advising on a leasehold acquisition of a 56,000 ft² production, warehouse and office facility in Kirkby-in-Ashfield on behalf of the tenant.
A wide variety of RICS ‘Red Book’ valuations across the East Midlands region including conventional industrial and warehouse units, offices, retail and leisure, land and children’s day nursery investments. These have been for a range of purposes such as company accounts, pension fund, loan security, tax or potential acquisition.
Lease renewals on a number of office buildings at the RTC Business Park in Derby on behalf of the landlord.
Agreement of lease renewals on a terrace of trade counter units in Derby on behalf of the landlord.
Consultancy report on demand for employment premises for a public sector client.

There is plenty of variety in terms of work and property types, so no day is the same and we often work alongside other professional advisors such as accountants, solicitors, banks and planning consultants.
