Award winning property consultant Fisher Hargreaves Proctor (FHP) has appointed Steve Young as Associate Partner within the Retail and Leisure Department of their Nottingham office.

Steve graduated from the University of Nottingham with an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Law.  He then went on to joint Aldi’s Area Manager Graduate Scheme before joining Fisher Hargreaves Proctor in July 2006.

Since joining Fisher Hargreaves Proctor, Steve has focused on high street retail and leisure transactions throughout the East Midlands, acting on behalf of individual clients and institutional investors such as Westfield, Hermes and Scottish Widows.

His current role is centred around Shopping Centre leasing with this year’s main project likely to be the long awaited refurbishment and reconfiguration of the Broadmarsh Centre, Nottingham for which there are likely to be a number of exciting announcements with the next eight to twelve weeks.

Steve commented:-

“I am delighted with my appointment to Associate Partner and I am relishing the opportunity of developing Fisher Hargreaves Proctor’s brand and business further over the forthcoming years.  Having worked for a corporate organisation prior to joining FHP, I have enjoyed the cut and thrust of working within a medium sized business and the entrepreneurial mentality that prevails within it.  Whilst the last eighteen months have been particularly challenging for the property sector, it has been a great opportunity for us to consider our strengths and weaknesses and improve as individual surveyors and indeed as a Practice.  I believe that the changes we have made during this period will stand us in good stead as the market improves and I am looking forward to being a part of that!”

David Hargreaves, Head of the Retail & Leisure team at FHP commented:-

“Steve approached me some 3 years ago with a rather unusual background, in that he had a law degree instead of a surveying degree, had managed supermarkets for Aldi and had worked as a waiter at World Service – not your normal CV for a surveyor.   However, the legal background and the hands-on retail and leisure experience, in my mind, would help give FHP an edge and would allow Steve to relate to our clients on the trading side as much as on the property side.  Most firms would not have given Steve the opportunity, but I am pleased to say that FHP are well-known for being forward thinking and our reward has been to see Steve develop rapidly, to the extent that he is now an Associate Partner at FHP.”
